What is VOIPconnect?
VOIPconnect is your gateway between the world of Voice over IP (VoIP) and traditional telephony. By purchasing an Asterisk server or a SIP phone you are now able to utilize VoIP, but the usefulness of your device is limited by the connections it has with the rest of the world. VOIPconnect connects your server or phone to the almost anywhere in the world, meaning that you can call almost anywhere in the world. You can send calls to other Asterisk servers and SIP phones or you can call ordinary analogue phones through the PSTN.
Additionally VOIPconnect makes use of least cost routing to ensure that the costs to you are as minimal as possible, whiles ensuring good call quality. This means that our charges are usually substantially lower than calls being sent over traditional mediums.
We offer two types of VOIPconnect accounts: IAX2 trunk accounts and single user SIP accounts.
Once having registered an account with us we will send you information on how to configure you Asterisk server or SIP phone to work with our network as well as either 10 x 087 VoIP numbers, if you register for an IAX2 trunk account, or 1 x 087 VoIP number if you register a single user account.
It is also possible to purchase 011 and 021 DID's. This means that people can phone you by dialing a 011 or 021 number.

How much does it cost?
A monthly fee is required as outlined below:
IAX2 trunk account: R95
SIP/IAX2 single user account: R45
You can also purchase an 011 or 021 DID for R45 per month.
Calling credit is purchased on a top-up basis. From this website you can easily top-up your account with the use of a credit card. Additionally you can track your expenditure.
An idea of call costs are outlined below.
Calls to other VOIPconnect users: free
Calls to local landlines: R0.55 per min
Calls to local cell phones: R1.40 per min
International calls to landlines: R0.55 per min **
International calls to cell phones: ~R1.50 per min

Both incoming calls and calls to other VOIPconnect users are charged to your free minutes. Single user accounts get 500 free minutes per month and trunk accounts get 1000 free minutes per month. After which these calls are charged at 5c per minute (charged per second).

From our experience we are usually around 30% cheaper than using telkom. Obviously this depends on the nature of your calls. For example if you do a lot of overseas calling then you might save as much as 50-60%.
